Glass vs. Acrylic for Pressed Flower Frames

When it comes to preserving your cherished wedding flowers in pressed flower frames, selecting the right material is crucial for showcasing their beauty while ensuring long-term protection. Acrylic and glass are two popular options, each with its own set of benefits. Let's explore the differences:

Acrylic Frames: Acrylic, also known as plexiglass, is a lightweight and shatter-resistant alternative to traditional glass. It offers several advantages for flower preservation:

  • Durability: Acrylic is highly durable and less prone to breakage than glass, making it ideal for shipping or displaying in high-traffic areas.

  • Clarity: High-quality acrylic provides excellent clarity, allowing your pressed flowers to shine without distortion.

  • UV Protection: Some acrylic frames come with UV-blocking properties, which help prevent your flowers from fading over time due to sunlight exposure.

  • Ease of Cleaning: Acrylic is easy to clean with a soft cloth and mild soap, making maintenance a breeze.

Glass Frames: Glass has been a classic choice for picture frames for centuries, offering its own set of advantages:

  • Clarity and Depth: Glass provides a timeless aesthetic with its clarity and depth, enhancing the beauty of pressed flowers.

  • Scratch Resistance: While glass may be more prone to breaking than acrylic, it tends to resist scratches better, ensuring long-lasting clarity.

  • Variety: Glass frames come in a variety of styles and finishes, allowing you to find the perfect frame to complement your pressed flower arrangement.

Both acrylic and glass frames offer unique benefits for showcasing pressed flowers in wedding flower preservation. Consider your priorities regarding durability, clarity, and aesthetics when choosing between the two materials for your pressed flower frame. Whether you opt for the lightweight durability of acrylic or the timeless elegance of glass, your cherished wedding flowers will be beautifully preserved for years to come.

At For Keeps Florals, we use both acrylic and glass for our pressed flower frames. Our smaller frames us glass on the front, and a thinner flexible acrylic in the back. This is because the smaller frames do not have a massive weight with the glass, and the frame manufacturer we use for this budget friendly option makes a specific style of frame and backing mechanism that work best with these thinner materials. Our larger pressed flower frames - including the square pressed flower frame, round pressed flower frame, and all others above 14” minimum measurement - use museum grade acrylic front and back with a UV protective face. We chose this option because the depth of the custom frame allows us to have a thicker material, weight is more of a factor with these larger sizes, and the big frames become much more shatter proof and shippable when using acrylic. We use UV protective seven though it’s a little more expensive, because we want to ensure your flowers last as long as possible. If you have any special frame or material requests, you can always contact us for custom creations!
